Warning for Homeowners in Madhya Pradesh: Criminals May Commit Crimes While Staying in Your Homes

Bhopal: In the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, criminals have changed their modus operandi. They are now committing crimes while staying in rented houses to avoid getting caught by the police. Recently, in the case of the rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl, the accused was also living in a rented house. During the investigation, the accused and his family's previous criminal record also surfaced, making the situation even more concerning.

Last month, the Bhopal Police Commissioner issued orders for the verification of all tenants and employees. Private institutions and schools have also been advised to get their employees' police verification done. If any homeowner is found negligent, they will face legal action. This year, the police have collected data on approximately 15,000 tenants and 226 workers, which is crucial for ensuring safety.

DCP Shukla: Tenant Verification Can Now Be Done Online

DCP Priyanka Shukla stated that police verification is being conducted for tenants living in private houses and employees of various institutions in Bhopal. The purpose is to maintain their records with the police to enable swift action if they are involved in any criminal activities. There is no need to visit the police station for the verification process; it can be completed through an online portal. The city has a large number of hostels, PG accommodations, and rental apartments, with an estimated one lakh tenants. Homeowners who fail to comply with the orders will face punitive action.

Fear of Criminal Tenants: Major Criminal Incidents in Bhopal

Apart from the case of the rape and murder of a young girl, several other crimes have involved tenants as the accused. In the BHEL area, two women were involved in a rape case in August, where they were illegally renting out properties. Similarly, the accused involved in robbing a jeweler at gunpoint in Bagsevania were also staying in rented accommodations. Two months ago, a case surfaced where an individual committed rape under the pretext of renting a room. In Delhi, fake bank officers staying in rented houses were caught for defrauding Bhopal residents. In all these cases, the police verification of the accused had not been conducted, highlighting the growing concern
