Raipur. Saurabh Chandrakar, the main accused in the ₹6,000 crore scam associated with the Mahadev online betting app, has been arrested in Dubai. This arrest was made based on an Interpol Red Corner Notice issued at the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). In this case, the ED, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) have jointly carried out an effective operation.
Saurabh Chandrakar, who previously ran a simple juice shop in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, built a vast betting empire through the Mahadev app. His arrest has brought the key perpetrator of this ₹6,000 crore scam under the law. According to the daily Hitavada, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai's government decided about a month and a half ago to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). CM Sai made it clear that no one involved in the scam would be spared, and the investigation would continue to ensure strict punishment for all guilty parties.
Preparation for Chandrakar's Extradition Intensifies
Following the swift action of the MEA, MHA, and ED, the extradition process for Saurabh Chandrakar has accelerated within a week of his arrest. These agencies have collectively initiated the process to complete all formalities for bringing Chandrakar to India. They are now finalizing the legal and diplomatic aspects of his extradition. Once this process is complete, Chandrakar will be provisionally arrested and presented before Indian law.

The contribution of Ram Gopal Garg, Inspector General of Police for the Durg range, has been exceptional in the success of this operation. Utilizing his seven years of experience with the CBI, he kept a close watch on every activity of Saurabh Chandrakar. Garg initiated a unique request process through the CID, directly involving the Chhattisgarh government's Home Department. In July 2024, he sent an urgent request to the Ministry of Home Affairs for Chandrakar's provisional arrest. In September, the Ministry raised important questions, to which Garg promptly responded and completed all necessary legal formalities. His high-level coordination played a crucial role in expediting Chandrakar's arrest and the extradition process.
Major Exposé of the Mahadev App Scam:
The illegal betting through the Mahadev app was revealed in 2019, after which the CBI and ED began investigating the scam. So far, 9 out of 19 accused have been arrested. Saurabh Chandrakar's arrest is expected to uncover many other secrets of the Mahadev app, leading to serious action on other aspects of this case.
