New Delhi | Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will hold a crucial review meeting today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, with the Chief Ministers of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) affected states. The Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh will participate. Five Union Ministers, senior officials, the Deputy National Security Advisor, and officials from the Central Armed Police Forces will also be present. The primary goal of the meeting is to accelerate development projects in these regions and strategize the eradication of Naxalism. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is committed to completely eliminating Naxalism by 2026, providing all possible support to the affected states.

Major Review Meeting After a Year, Naxal-Affected States to be Discussed

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah last chaired a review meeting with the Chief Ministers of LWE-affected states on October 6, 2023. In that meeting, he provided comprehensive guidelines to root out Naxalism and emphasized strengthening both development efforts and security measures in these regions.

The Final Battle of Left-Wing Extremism

The Modi government's strategy has led to significant success in the fight against Left-Wing Extremism. Compared to 2010, violence decreased by 72% in 2023, and deaths by 86%, signaling that Naxalism is fighting its final battle. In 2024, security forces achieved major victories, killing 202 Naxalites, while 723 Maoists surrendered in the first nine months of the year. The number of LWE-affected districts has now dropped to just 38.

The central government has taken concrete steps to promote development in these areas. Special emphasis has been placed on road and mobile connectivity in remote regions. So far, 14,400 kilometers of roads have been constructed, and around 6,000 mobile towers have been installed, ensuring the reach of development projects in these regions.
