MP News: CBI Court's Major Decision, Family in Madhya Pradesh Sentenced—Know What the Case Is About

Bhopal | The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sentenced a retired bank officer, his five family members, and a chartered accountant in a case of disproportionate assets. On September 30, the CBI's special court sentenced former Assistant General Manager Jitendra Pratap Singh to three years of rigorous imprisonment in this 19-year-old case. Additionally, he was fined ₹32,22,250, and failure to pay this fine will result in an extra three months in jail.

Jitendra's wife, Kiran Singh, daughters Anvesha, Garima, Namrata, son-in-law Sameer Singh, and the chartered accountant were each sentenced to one year in prison and fined ₹25,000 each. All were charged under corruption-related sections. The CBI initiated the investigation in 2005, during which several documents of movable and immovable properties and various bank accounts, along with gold and silver jewelry, were seized. This case has set an important precedent for action against corruption.

Uncovering Corruption: The Truth Behind the Scam

In 2007, the CBI filed a charge sheet against the accused, stating that retired bank officer Jitendra Pratap Singh illegally acquired assets worth approximately ₹37,13,313 between January 1, 1999, and April 2, 2005. The investigation revealed that he opened bogus bank accounts in the names of his wife and daughters at various branches of the State Bank of India (SBI) to conceal these assets. During the trial, 94 pieces of evidence were presented before the special court. After the hearing, the court found Singh guilty of acquiring illegal assets and sentenced him accordingly.
