Rajasthan News: The Jodhpur High Court has taken a strict stance regarding the delay in action against police officers in a case involving a bribe of ₹35 lakhs for releasing a drug trafficking suspect at the Basni police station. Justice Farzand Ali ordered the suspension of the then Basni station house officer, Jitendra Singh, and the current Vivek Vihar station house officer, head constable Swarup Ram Vishnoi. The court also stated that swift action should be taken in this matter.
Demand for CBI Investigation:
Voices have been raised in the Supreme Court regarding the need for a CBI investigation. Advocate Shivprakash Bhati stated that the court has expressed its desire to have the case investigated by the CBI. Additionally, the court ordered an inquiry into the roles of Shastri Nagar station house officer Devendra Singh Devda and Basni station house officer Mohd. Shafiq Khan, expressing doubts about their involvement. The court issued notices to the state's Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and the Director General of Police, with the next hearing scheduled for October 17.
Questions Raised on ACB and Police Commissioner's Investigation:
The court raised questions regarding the investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the police commissioner, stating that an independent and impartial inquiry into the collusion between police officers and the ACB is necessary. The justice also noted that justice should not only be done but should also be seen to be done. For this reason, the possibility of a CBI investigation into the case is being considered to ensure a thorough examination of the allegations and to strengthen the justice process.
Court's Strong Objection to Police Negligence:
The court clarified that the primary duty of the police is to take action against the illegal activities of suspects, not to accept bribes and release them. The court warned that if police officers are found involved in such actions, it would undermine public trust in law and order.
