Sandeep Goel's troubles increase: Home Ministry initiates investigation into VIP treatment.
The Home Ministry has initiated an investigation against former Tihar Jail DG Sandeep Goel. He is accused of providing VIP facilities to AAP leader Satyendar Jain and violating prison regulations, which includes a case of extortion amounting to ₹200 crore.
The Home Ministry has initiated a departmental investigation against former Tihar Jail Director General Sandeep Goel. He is accused of providing VIP facilities to AAP leader Satyendar Jain, who is currently imprisoned. The Delhi government's Home Department is also investigating this matter, and a report may soon be submitted to the Home Ministry.
On December 21, 2022, Sandeep Goel, an IPS officer from the 1989 AGMUT cadre, was suspended. Due to the likelihood of departmental proceedings against him, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena instructed him to report to the Delhi Police headquarters, and Sanjay Beniwal was appointed in his place. The decision to suspend Goel was based on a report by a committee of principal secretaries from the Home, Law, and Vigilance Departments, which mentioned his alleged collusion with Satyendar Jain. Additionally, conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, accused of extortion worth ₹200 crore, alleged that Goel had taken money for ensuring his safety in jail.
Video footage released by the ED revealed that Sandeep Goel spoke with Satyendar Jain for nearly 50 minutes on October 6. Furthermore, Goel is accused of allowing Jain's family members to repeatedly enter the entrance of Jail Number 7 without orders from an authorized authority, which constitutes a serious violation of the Delhi Jail Rules of 2018.
