Recovery Charges Against NIA Officer Ajay: Demanded Bribe of 2.5 Crore

An officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe of 2.5 crore rupees to shield someone from terrorism charges. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested NIA Deputy SP Ajay Pratap Singh, who was stationed in Patna, along with his two middlemen. Ajay took a bribe of 20 lakh rupees from an individual and demanded the remaining amount. The complainant, Rocky Yadav, the owner of Ramiya Construction, reported that Ajay was demanding money by threatening to implicate him in a false case involving illegal weapons. The NIA searched Rocky’s premises on September 19 and summoned Ajay for questioning on September 26.
Bribery Scheme: Revelation of the First Installment of 25 Lakh
It is alleged that Ajay Pratap Singh, who came to the NIA on deputation from the Income Tax Department, threatened Rocky Yadav and demanded a bribe of 2.5 crore rupees. According to an official, Rocky agreed to the DSP's demand to protect his family from false accusations. A CBI spokesperson stated that on the day of questioning, September 26, the accused Deputy SP asked Rocky to pay the first installment of 25 lakh rupees and also provided him with a middleman's mobile number. Rocky arranged the money and sent it to Aurangabad through a relative.
Bribery's Second Installment: Revelation of the Demand for 70 Lakh
The central investigative agency has alleged that Ajay Pratap Singh was in contact with a middleman who was present in Aurangabad around 11:30 PM on the day of the incident, confirming the delivery of the bribe. According to the CBI, Ajay summoned Rocky Yadav again on October 1 and demanded 70 lakh rupees, half of which was to be paid that same day in Patna. The spokesperson mentioned that Ajay gave Rocky a handwritten note with a mobile number. Rocky called the provided number to ask for time to arrange the money and assured that the money would reach Gaya on October 3.
CBI and NIA: Joint Investigation Process Initiated
The CBI informed senior officials of the NIA about the entire case. After receiving accurate input, the CBI devised a plan in coordination with the NIA. The NIA stated in a press release that the CBI has arrested the accused investigating officer, Deputy SP Ajay Pratap Singh, along with his two agents, Himanshu and Ritik Kumar Singh, for taking 20 lakh rupees in illegal bribes from the complainant. Searches were conducted at multiple locations in Patna and Varanasi, where the bribe amount was seized.
