High Court's Strict Stance on the Dilapidated Roads of the State: Chief Justice Asked Officials – When Will the Construction of New Roads Begin?

Chhattisgarh: A public interest litigation regarding the poor condition of roads in the state was heard on Thursday by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice BD Guru. The Chief Justice expressed displeasure over the delay in road repairs and new construction work despite the government releasing grants. He questioned officials about whether the funds would be used properly or misused. The court directed NHAI, PWD, and the Municipal Corporation to submit progress reports with affidavits. The next hearing is scheduled for November 18.
During the hearing, NHAI submitted an affidavit stating that land acquisition has been completed near Sendri Four-Lane, where a new road is to be built to prevent accidents caused by black spots. A work order has been issued, and the process will be completed within a month. Advocate Sandeep Dubey, representing the Bilaspur Municipal Corporation, informed the court that the process for constructing new roads has begun, and pothole repairs will start soon. The state government has released grants for new roads and maintenance, which will be completed within a month.
Negligence at Korba Airstrip: High Court Issues Reprimand
During the hearing on the Korba airstrip incident, the Chief Justice expressed strong displeasure over maintenance negligence. He said such negligence could have serious consequences, as seen in this incident, where the Finance Minister and other public representatives narrowly escaped harm. He questioned the poor condition of the airstrip, stating that if this is the situation for VVIPs, what will happen to the safety of the common public? The Chief Justice further emphasized that the lives of both the common and the privileged are valuable, and improving the condition of roads is essential.
